AlHazred on "Kickstarter-like Options in the UK?"

Since this is one of my favorite essential DM software tools and I believe that hard work should be rewarded, I respectfully suggest that something like Kickstarter be started for this product. I think there's a niche here that needs to be filled -- there are other sound effects programs for RPGs, but they're neither as simple to use or as reliable to run.

To that end, I did a little research on outfits similar to Kickstarter, but that can be accessed in the UK.

I, for one, use this product a lot as GM. Something like Kickstarter must exist in the UK; I'd definitely be in for some development assistance!

But also, I'd just be delighted to see this project going forward in whatever direction. It's become a routine part of my DM'ing process, and I have a blast just fiddling around with sounds and prepping the next big encounter. It's a great program and I'd love to see it get even better.

I agree that the piracy issue is a real one, but I'd also like to be able to take a scene I've made under one file and move it into another easily. For instance, I made a button that gives me melee combat noises under my "Dungeon" file, and I'd like to be able to straightforwardly copy and paste it into my other Softrope files without a hassle. But so far as I know, if I want that same combat button to be available in a different Softrope file, I have to recreate the whole thing from scratch. So there's a use for that sharing ability even if it's only for sharing with myself.
But also re: piracy, I made a lot of scenes that are just sound effects and which use nothing but sound files I downloaded from royalty free sites (of which there are several.) There should be no problem sharing those.

I also use Softrope for my D&D campaign. I wanted to add hundreds of sound files and looked for an option to specify as directory of sound file to chose randomly from, but this option doesn't exist. I see the save file is xml so I plan on trying to add the files through a text editor I use that has a nice macro feature. This will take 20 seconds opposed to god knows how long adding each of the hundreds of sound files using Softrope's GUI. :)

I hope you continue this project, I love it!

Google+ sounds like a great mix of everything Facebook and Twitter offer. Not to mention other sites. I recently watched a youtube clip about it.

I'm game for testing it. Invite away!

Though, bad side of this idea is it makes the save file humongous if you use a lot of sound files. Also, I'm sorry but it could make those files illegal since it won't be respecting copyrights (you have to own the original sound/music to be able to acquire it legally). So, for example, if you use a movie soundtrack in one of your module, if I don't own this soundtrack, it's illegal for me to get your file that contains those tracks.

What I think should be the next step is to add the possibillity to make scenes and modules self-contained. So that if I sit on one computer and makes a module, the clicks Save module the sound files are saved into the module. Then I can mail/dropbox/USB/floppy disk it to another computer with Softrope, import the module and voila, the module and all the saved files are there and work.

Like a button "Save scene" that could be used for sharing, like on this forum. If there was a thread: "Shared scenes" where people can upload their favorit scenes to others. And then a similar where you can save entire modules in the same way.
