A manual would be great. Then I wouldn't have to stumble through trying to figure out what everything does.

I've done this. But I cheat really by using a mixing desk. And a second computer.

Looking briefly around the podcast community this seems to be the way it's done, as Skype doesn't have a way to route multiple audio sources to it.

First thanks for an awesome tool, it's been very useful.

I have started to gamemaster over the net using skype for talking and winamp + shoutcast for music.
Is there any way to have softrope send it's audio over the net? I've been trying to find a way to have the audio sent through Skype or some other program but the closest I have is livestream and that can't be used since it mixes in voices from the skype conversation, giving an annoying echo due to both playing at the same time. (And the delay of livestream makes it impossible to just mute skype for players, plus I use livestream to record sessions)

I have been trying to use a tool called Virtual Audio Cable which creates a virtual input and output that can then be sent inbetween other cables. But for it to work I need to specify which sound device softrope should send to and so far it only sends to my default audio device. Is there a way to change this? Or perhaps an easier solution. (VAC is fairly complex and annoying to work with to be honest)

Yeah, that would be great for ambient sounds. Not so much for everything, but awesome for specific things.

Background music for example. That does need spacial placement.

It's funny that you mention this, but I originally wanted to build something like that into maptool so as miniatures moved on the map, sound for them would change in placement and volume. The problem was that we don't really have a java developer on the team that specializes in sound so it will probably never happen. That is ok I guess, as long as someone makes a great sound mixer for me to use. ;)

How cool would it be to have like a sound map type affair, I can imagine this working really well on an iPad or other touch device.

Something that perhaps looked like this: http://twitpic.com/8625dj/full

Then you could drag the party around and the relative sound levels of anything on the map could change as the location of the party marker changes.

Another example of this is when the party moves closer to certain 'things', I want the ability to slowly increase the volume of that 'thing'. For example, let's say there are a bunch of guards snoring several rooms away. I might make their snores very low on the volume, and as the party gets closer, I increase the volume of the snores. Well, I have some scenes that may have 10+ sounds all playing at once, and will want to tweak those throughout the journey. As they move further away from the blacksmith, I drop that volume, as they get closer to the fountain, I increase that sound, etc.

Hello and thank you for making Softrope! I will make sure I plug it over on our forums (rptools.net)

I will have a whole list of ideas but let me start with this one first:

1. When I game, I sometimes need to make small control adjustments over certain pieces of audio. I might have it all mixed up well on my home speaker system, but when I run a game at my friends house, certain sounds may be quieter or louder than I want, so I will adjust them during play (I currently use RPGSoundmixer which doesn't work in anything better than WinXP so I am looking for a replacement which led me here). I love how your app feels in that it is pretty obvious to use - small learning curve, however, I cannot change any sound parameters while the mix is currently being playing. That is a must for me.

Thanks again!

Hi there! Thanks for this awesome program.

Are you still having problems with this? May I suggest something?
Instead of checking whether any sounds are left playing everytime a track stops, you can use a numeric variable to keep track of how many tracks are playing. When you start the scene, the variable starts with the number of tracks, and everytime a track stops (with loop turned off), it decreases. When it reaches zero, it's over!
