I was thinking an instruction manual that gives step-by-step directions on how to use the program, its different applications, and what each of the buttons and icons do.

First thanks for an awesome tool, it's been very useful.

I have started to gamemaster over the net using skype for talking and winamp + shoutcast for music.
Is there any way to have softrope send it's audio over the net? I've been trying to find a way to have the audio sent through Skype or some other program but the closest I have is livestream and that can't be used since it mixes in voices from the skype conversation, giving an annoying echo due to both playing at the same time. (And the delay of livestream makes it impossible to just mute skype for players, plus I use livestream to record sessions)

I have been trying to use a tool called Virtual Audio Cable which creates a virtual input and output that can then be sent inbetween other cables. But for it to work I need to specify which sound device softrope should send to and so far it only sends to my default audio device. Is there a way to change this? Or perhaps an easier solution. (VAC is fairly complex and annoying to work with to be honest)

Hello and thank you for making Softrope! I will make sure I plug it over on our forums (rptools.net)

I will have a whole list of ideas but let me start with this one first:

1. When I game, I sometimes need to make small control adjustments over certain pieces of audio. I might have it all mixed up well on my home speaker system, but when I run a game at my friends house, certain sounds may be quieter or louder than I want, so I will adjust them during play (I currently use RPGSoundmixer which doesn't work in anything better than WinXP so I am looking for a replacement which led me here). I love how your app feels in that it is pretty obvious to use - small learning curve, however, I cannot change any sound parameters while the mix is currently being playing. That is a must for me.

Thanks again!

First of all I really like to thank you for this really good software. I plan to use it for my online sessions via Teamspeak.

And of course this is the reason for my request. As I use my main computer for communicating (Teamspeak and Maptool) I have to run Softrope on my laptop. Otherwise all my players would hear themselves in the audio stream. As I'm always a bit confused by using two keyboards and mice my suggestion is to integrate some remote control functionality like in RPGDeck so that I can focus on just one keyboard and mouse and control Softrope on the laptop via my main computer.

Well, it's far down at the bottom of the "to fix" list, but here goes :

I have some scenes which are only 1 or multiple sounds which don't repeat. For example, a door opening or a thunder clash. I would have liked to have the scene unselect itself (the yellow outline) when the sound is done playing so I don't have to unselect it then reselect it when I want to play the sound again.

First of all: most of these ideas com from the RPG-SoundMixer, but I guess this project ist dead.

1) Import/Export function for a single scene. As far as I understand I just can load a "module", which is a set of "scenes"

2) Randomising volume, balance and rate in certain range to help effects not sound too repetitive

3) Keyboad Control?

Greetings

I would love to see some capability to have randomized up or down shifts in volume for individual sound effects. This does not have to be something in the GUI. I'm fine with a little text editing to tweak and fine tune scenes, but having volume variation helps effects not sound too repetitive. This can be accomplished by adding several of the same sound at different volumes, but it is much less efficient to do this.

I've created around 40 scenes now for my campain, and it's working great. I decided to divide music and ambience so that I can easily choose different music themes for the same background. For example: The players are in a cave, and one moment I might want stressfull music, and another moment more calm music but I want to keep the ambient effect of the cave in both scenes. I made several music themes and several ambience scenes, and since I can play several at the same time I get a more dynamic soundenviroment. I don't have to create a new scene for EVERY possible situation. I can combine my ambience effects and my music scenes.

My suggestion is this: You split the big black area in two, or make it an option. Perhaps a "line" you can drag to split the screen (not unlike how you can split an excel-file). This way you can choose to sort one kind of scenes to the left and for example ambience on the left. You can keep some sort of order.

Daniel Boggs on "Fade in - Fade out"

Having the fade out for an entire scene is great. But fade could be useful in SO many other areas. For instance I have many sound effects that end rather abruptly. Sometimes this is appropriate, other times, there is not enough other noise to cover how abrupt it is and it sounds off to end so suddenly. Could there be fade in/fade out toggles for sound effects as well as the scene as a whole? Doesn't have to be advanced like the fade out where you can set the fade time. Even a static 1-2 seconds, or maybe a global setting would be just fine.
