I'm not much into "import playlist" thing, but I would definatly like to be able to add multiple sounds at once instead of having to add them one by one.

Daw hey don't worry about slowness ;) We're all very patient as we're bound to using crutches for now anyways so ANY improvement happening whenever is making us happy :)

At the moment I use a mix of Softrope and RPG Atmosphere to get anywhere near what I want ^_^

And YES a "Import playlist as sound effect" option would be very cool for everybody already having stuff preconfigured.

I would be happy with just drag and drop. Playlists would be nice, but not entirely sure how often I would use them.

Can do, of course. But Softrope offers a much cleaner interface for switching between playlists without intruding on the game than most generic media players. When GMing I'd rather only have one app to manage sound rather than flicking between multiple windows. Our TOD GM uses iTunes and he always fumbles a bit when switching.

The other RPG sound apps I use (RPG Deck and RPG-SoundMixer) both integrate music & sfx playback and they're what I'm looking to replace with Softrope.

Why not just use WinAmp, ITunes, WindowsMediaPlayer to manage large music libraries. I tend to play music through playlists in WMP and run my sound effects program at same time.

Seconded.

I get the impression that Softrope was originally designed mainly with sound effects in mind, in which case adding SFX files individually isn't unreasonable. But if you want to use it for playing random background music, you want as large a number of different tracks to choose from as possible (our Tour Of Darkness GM has a couple of hundred Vietnam-era pop songs, for example)

Any method of being able to add multiple files to scene at once would be a big help, but the ability to import an externally generated playlist file would be ideal.

Regards

Dr V

Howdy,

so far I am in love with Softrope. Nice design, easy to use in most regards, and does exactly what I want out of an RPG sound mixer - no more, no less. There's one exception: adding files to a soundscape. I don't know how other people organize and build their soundscapes, but I do it in a media player (iTunes, MediaMonkey) and create a playlist first. Then I go into Softrope and recreate the playlist. This is kind of a pain if there are a decent number of tracks in the soundscape.

Example: I've got my music well-tagged in MediaMonkey, so for the upcoming battle in Horned Helm I pulled up a filtered playlist of all tracks that were tagged "Music", "Dungeon", and had 3+ stars. I filter out some of the ones tagged as "Dramatic" - this is an important series of encounters, but nothing epic. Likewise, I remove the ones tagged "Eerie" - not really the vibe I want for a duergar fort. Repeat this process for my ambient sound effects: "Environment", "Dungeon", 3+ Stars. Both of these pulled up a fair number of tracks, and it's a drag to add them one at a time to a Softrope scene.

I would love to be able to import a playlist, or drag-and-drop multiple files. Or at the very least, be able to select multiple files at once.

Cheers,
snuh
