Hi!

First of all, I wanna say thanks and well done for Softrope! It's a really good tool I was looking forward for a long time (I hate RPG SoundMixer, ugly and not user friendly at all) !

I also wanna say hello to the community ! I'm joining you guys in hope of giving usefull feedbacks and ideas for Softrope! Long live! :)

EDIT : Doh! I wanted to post that in the general forum, not under request!

I've created around 40 scenes now for my campain, and it's working great. I decided to divide music and ambience so that I can easily choose different music themes for the same background. For example: The players are in a cave, and one moment I might want stressfull music, and another moment more calm music but I want to keep the ambient effect of the cave in both scenes. I made several music themes and several ambience scenes, and since I can play several at the same time I get a more dynamic soundenviroment. I don't have to create a new scene for EVERY possible situation. I can combine my ambience effects and my music scenes.

My suggestion is this: You split the big black area in two, or make it an option. Perhaps a "line" you can drag to split the screen (not unlike how you can split an excel-file). This way you can choose to sort one kind of scenes to the left and for example ambience on the left. You can keep some sort of order.

You need an Icon mate. :D

Something like this?
http://www.veryicon.com/icon/preview/Object/Climb%20On/Rope%20Icon.jpg

Perhaps with a note or something.

I absolutely love this program. I've been looking for something like this for litteraly 10 years of gaming. Today I decided I was gonna make it myself, and to get some inspirations i googled some more. An lo and behold!

Second best rpg tool ever! (just after the dice...)

I few thoughs and ideas to make a great program even better:

* It would be usefull to be able to "lock" the loop of one soundeffect. Say that I have seven different "cricket" effects to give a wide range of night-themes. They loop well enough on their own, but they don't loop well "into" eachother. So a little button on each sample to "loop endlessly". So the samples till randomise, but only once (on start of the scene)
* An automatic save on exit.
* An "are you sure?" question on deleting scenes.
* Categories (an optional grid?)
* An option to save the soundfiles and pictures into one mediafile, so that you can easily bring it with you to you sessions.

Perhaps some of these features already exists, or are on their way. I'm totally new to this. Great work!

Well, it's far down at the bottom of the "to fix" list, but here goes :

I have some scenes which are only 1 or multiple sounds which don't repeat. For example, a door opening or a thunder clash. I would have liked to have the scene unselect itself (the yellow outline) when the sound is done playing so I don't have to unselect it then reselect it when I want to play the sound again.

diogenes on "Source of fantasy .wav files"

For what it's worth, on a whim I peeked inside my Neverwinter Nights 2 folder, and found thousands of .wav viles that I could plunk right in Softrope and build some great scenes. Some are in a folder called Ambient and can be used and looped without any work at all. Others are in /Data as a zip file called Sounds.zip; unzip it and you've got literally thousands of sounds to work with. Of course I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to use these sounds to do something commercial, but if, like me, you own the software legitimately and you're just building sound-portraits for your weekly gaming session, this is an easy way to get source material.

Love the program, btw! Can't wait to see it grow.

Daniel Boggs on "Fade in - Fade out"

Having the fade out for an entire scene is great. But fade could be useful in SO many other areas. For instance I have many sound effects that end rather abruptly. Sometimes this is appropriate, other times, there is not enough other noise to cover how abrupt it is and it sounds off to end so suddenly. Could there be fade in/fade out toggles for sound effects as well as the scene as a whole? Doesn't have to be advanced like the fade out where you can set the fade time. Even a static 1-2 seconds, or maybe a global setting would be just fine.

Those two green knobs on the top right, which I guessed was somewhat reverb and... echo (not sure) adjustment.

1. Needs mouse over label
2. Needs those knobs in the edit scene windows rather than the main window to be able to ajust mood of a specific scene rather than have to play with it each time you change scene. Its position also need to be saved under each scene.

Occasionally I start a scene and realize something is off. The scene as a whole is too quiet, one effect is too loud, one effect should be turned off completely, etc. Of course, I can always open the scene, fix it then play, but that creates a sharp break in the scene that I try to avoid in game, and no matter how much I test I always miss SOMETHING come gameday. The ability to open a scene without stopping it from playing would be endlessly useful.
