I may be the minority here, but using a surround sound environment to create a scene can add an immense amount of immersion to the effect created by adding sound effects to your game. I understand the challenge in programming softrope to be able to actually create these surround effects (though that would be INCREDIBLE if it could). In lue of that could it play the surround already encoded in a sound file?

Playing the surround sound encoded in the file might actually be very simple. As the sound library I'm using supports AC3 encoded files.
Whether or not I've made a design decision that might preclude that part of the library or not remains to be seen*.
*Bloody hell it's difficult to type "seen" instead of "scene". --grins--

Well I won't lie it would be just perfect to be able to throw different effects into different "corners" of the soundcloud if you have a sourround sound system installed, similar to most calibrating panels modern sound cards offer where you can setup the speakers. Sure randomizing here would be winner too. ^^
But yeah I know that's gonna be the least of all problems to think about regarding such a project I guess, so I won't expect anything anytime soon.
Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?
